#1 Yoga

I started my new things with Yoga. I always have wanted to try it, I thought it would be one of the “simpler” new things to try.

I downloaded the Free app “Daily Yoga”, on the Apple app store. I picked this app because it had numerous classes. The cool thing about these classes is they are a week program, and you can pick your own schedule! The app will remind you when your session is about to start, and the animation and voice description is awesome.

I chose the beginners class, and I’ll admit that i was wrong about the simplicity. I was a little sore after, but the two minutes of relaxation time was absolutely amazing. It felt like all negative energy was draining out of my body, and I opened my eyes feeling very “zen”.

I recommend Yoga to all my friends, and boyfriend. I have done Yoga every day since the first day I’ve done it, and I already am thankful for starting this journey.

#12 Going all day without JUNKFOOD!!

Okay, so this one I knew right from the jump was gonna be difficult. I’m a huge snacker, and have a constant supply of fudge pops, chocolate, and nacho ingredients. Since a lot of the things I’d been trying had been health related, I thought I’d stay with the trend.

So the picture above is what I had packed for my lunch. So I still have my snacks, except they are healthy snacks. I was actually pretty proud of myself, and I had just finished my candy snacks at my desk the day before so I was excited to get to work – nooooo temptations.

BOY WAS I WRONG. LOL

I get into the work break room, put my lunch box in the refrigerator, sat my tea down and boom… there is a entire bowl of effing chocolate right there. Right where I just happen to keep my tea… every morning. WHY UNIVERSE?!

I actually literally looked at my friend, and said “are you effing kidding me.” I stayed strong though, I didn’t take any of the chocolate, and up until lunch time I didn’t even think about the chocolate.

So as I was sitting there, not thinking about that delicious chocolate, my friend snapchats me during her lunch. What does she send me you ask? A UTZ SNACK PACK FOR STAFF IN THE BREAK ROOM. WHHHYYYY MEEEE?!?

Literally, lunch was hell. Having to watch my co-workers eat the chips, and me having to eat my terrible healthy food. But to be honest – it wasn’t even terrible. Bananas are the bomb, I have a new obsession with those mini oranges, and peanuts are full of protein and fiber. So like even tho I sort of felt like I was missing out, it was the first time I haven’t felt sluggish after lunch in a long time.

So even though doing it felt amazing, the next day the candy was still there, as well as the chips – and although I did pack yet another healthy lunch and snacks…..

I definitely ate the shit out of that chocolate (8 pieces to be exact). No I don’t regret splurging either LOL. However I learned that I can still eat my healthy food, and eat the junk food too. Just within reason.

I challenge you to go all day without eating junk food. Tell me how you feel after the day!

#8: Enjoying a Red Wine

I will start by saying I absolutely love cheap wine. To be honest, the cheaper the better – like box wine? I go crazy for that shit.

However, I’ve recently been informed (by recently, I mean years ago) that red wine has health benefits, compared to a white wine.

Back to cheap wine. Not only do I love cheap wine, I love sweet wine! I can’t handle dry wine, I want a nice scrumptious sweet taste. Typically I’ll go for a nice (Cheap) moscato.

While beginning this journey, I have decided to make multiple new things benefit my health, and physical activity. So I figured, why continue to drink this cheap white wine, that doesn’t benefit me at all?

There is a liquor store walking distance from my house, and I went there with so many questions. The main question “Does sweet red wine exist?” The second – “Do you have any in stock?”

He took me to a shelf which he said had the sweet red wines. There was three bottles, and of course since I have a love for cheap wine. I picked the cheapest bottle (pictured above.)

Cheap wine didn’t let me down, as it never does. This wine wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet (not as sweet as I typically go for though), and was not dry at all. It was a very nice balance of sweet and dry, with a good after taste (I can’t describe it, you’ll have to try it!).

I’m sticking my mini fridge this weekend, and you better believe, this red wine will be in there. I strongly suggest you buy a bottle for the weekend, or after a long day at work. If you do, let me know your thoughts! Give me some other red wine options!

#7 Cooking an International Dish

I am pretty basic in my food choices. I don’t really cook much, and one day while looking at Pinterest a dish “Chicken Tikka Masala – Easy Recipe” came up. I watched the video it came with, and talked to my boyfriend and friend about it (she was coming over for dinner.) They both liked the dish and said to try it.

The recipe is in my Pinterest board 2,020 things (@BzzforTheBees) and shout out the maker of this! The instructions were so easy to understand, and the outcome was so delicious! ( I may be bias but my friend, and my boyfriend loved it too – and he has ate left overs every since.)

This was the first time I’ve pushed my boundaries food wise, and it definitely is not going to be the last. Cooking this, and eating this made me very proud of myself. It was trying something new, and succeeding massively at it!

I am so excited to try many different international foods – stay tuned for more recipes!

#6 Visiting a non-traditional Grocery Store

For one of my new things, I decided I wanted to cook an international dish. Side note – I’m not really much of a cooker… I typically only cook spaghetti, or lemon pepper chicken. I will talk about my dish, in the next new thing I write about. This is going to be about the store I shopped at, for the ingredients.

I had no idea where to go, and so I put “Indian Restaurants near me” in my Apple maps app. It came up with a store the town next to me, so I thought I would start there.

The store was easy enough to find, however I had no idea where the F any of these ingredients would be. An employee came up to me asked if I needed any help, I showed him my list of ingredients I got off Pinterest and said “I have no idea where any of these are”. Well- neither did he (LOL) so he went and found someone who did.

While he was looking for someone to help me, I decided to explore the aisle he took me into. I found the ingredients I needed, while another man came to help me. He saw what I had and asked, “are you going to be using all of that?”, I told him probably not, but that it was okay. He took me to the ingredients, and handed me the smaller boxes of each (and cheaper ones) – then told me “so you don’t have to spend unnecessary money”

I will rave about this place to everyone I know, and that definitely will not be the last time I go. The customer service was the best service I’ve had in such a long time.

#4 Going to the Gym

Last year I told my mom I wanted to work out more, but couldn’t afford a gym membership. So for Christmas she got me a Planet Fitness gym membership (Black Card- only 20$ a month and you can bring a guest!). It was good for the year, and I thought this would finally be my motivation.

I hope my mom never reads this, and I’m sorry mom! Love you *Nervous smiles* but alas…. we never went. It would be excuses after excuses, and honestly just unmotivated laziness.

BUT- January 3rd I went to the gym with my best friend. We worked out for about an hour, and could not stop talking about how proud of ourselves we were – and how good we were feeling. Thank you again mom- for getting me that membership because if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t have already had that step done, and had one less excuse not to actually work out.

Me and my Best friend have made a commitment to go to the gym every Tuesday now (and matter of fact, tomorrow is Tuesday and we are planning on going right after work). Having a work out buddy definitely helps the motivation to go.

If you have been wanting to go to the gym, text your friends. I guarantee someone will respond wanting to go with you. Pick a day, actually go, and then let me know how good you felt walking back to your car.

# 2 Reading a New Book Genre

Typically, I never read. I’ll read when I am in the airport, or on the airplane. Every time I read I read the same books – romance, and after I read I always wonder why I don’t read more..

Side note – I am a Harry Potter NERD. I’ve been to the Harry Potter world in Universal Studios 3 times, I own all the books & movies. I also, may or may not have a Harry Potter Christmas ornament. However (don’t judge me on this coming up..) I have never actually read the books.. (I know, I know)

So my first new Genre I am reading is Harry Potter. At work I can listen to things on my phone, so during work I listen to the books and at home I will read them. I’m still on the first book not gonna lie.

But… reading books is very peaceful. Also, if you haven’t read the Harry Potter books and watched the movies – READ THE BOOKS! I’m only on the first book & I’ve learned SO much that the movies don’t even cover.

Reading books actually is pretty fulfilling. Finishing chapter after chapter, if you read books you’ll know what I mean. If you don’t, when your done reading this go pick up a book and try it! You won’t regret it, I promise.
